PETRA AI: Permission and Transparency in the use of GenAI

This project is a simple website created using VITE (React) and MaterialUI (MIU) to let students, creators and educators alike share their transparency in the use of GenAI.

First of all it lets students and creators share how they used GenAI and it also lets teachers share how they’d like their students to use it as well.

In response to a few requests and things I’ve noticed over the last few months, I’ve added a few new features.

Cognitive Outsourcing

There’s been lots of discourse on the ‘thinking role’ that GenAI plays in teaching and learning, and the potential for it to bypass or replace cognitive processes that lead to learning (which can have a negative effect on learning obviously). As a cognitive scientist in my day job, I think it’s important to consider these aspects of GenAI use, so I added an optional disclosure for students / creators to allow them to share this ‘thinking role’.

It’s contentious to think that anyone using GenAI would cede their own thinking to this technology, but I wanted to include it simply because it’s important to think about.

Text Copying

Some educational institutions want their students to provide a declaration / acknowledgement in text from, so you can now do this, and edit the text before you copy it.

QR Codes and URLs

To make it easier to share your GenAI guidance and usage, I added the option to download a QR code, which contains a coded url which contains the guidance on a new landing page.

These methods make it a bit easier to provide guidance and acknowledgement in our use of GenAI in a sharable way.
