Sub-Account Branding in Canvas

At our institution, our canvas instance is starting to be used for non-academic purposes, which is great, but that means that sub-theming is going to need to happen.

I wanted to make sure that students knew they were in a different place — that they weren’t engaging in an academic course, so I created a sub-account and themed it differently.

Here’s what our academic course header looks like:

And here’s what our student services banner looks like:

It would be pretty cool to have a different theme for each department, even if that meant changing some of that text on the left hand side to reflect the program of the course, but for now, I like this solution. It separates academic courses and courses that support students.

Best of all, it’s pretty easy to do.
